Date Created/Published: [Between 1860 and 1865, re-photographed 1961] Part of: Selected Civil War photographs, (Library of Congress) Reproduction Number: LC-B8184-10018 . After a short stay in a Union prison, Private Carper was exchanged on June 26th, 1863 and then was captured again on December 27th, 1863. Carper was exchanged once more on February 13th, 1864 and surrendered  in May of 1865. Private Carper died on September 21st, 1918 and is buried at the Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon, Virginia.
