Jude Law’s Civil War Double-Private Philip W. Carper, 35th Bn., Virginia Cavalry
I found this photo of Carper and thought he looked a lot like Jude Law in Cold Mountain
Private Carper fought with the 35th Battalion, Virginia Cavalry at the Battle of Brandy Station on June 9th, 1863. During his fight on Fleetwood Hill, on ground that the CWPT is currently working to preserve, Private Carper was wounded by a Union saber and taken prisoner.
After a short stay in a Union prison, Private Carper was exchanged on June 26th, 1863 and then was captured again on December 27th, 1863. Caper was exchanged once more on February 13th, 1864 and surrended in May of 1865.
Private Carper died on September 21st, 1918 and is buried at the Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon, Virginia.
