The events of the war, and the men of the war, are fast fading from the public attention. Its history is growing to be an “Old, Old Story.” Public interest is weakening day by day. The memory of march, and camp, and battle-field, of the long and manly endurance, of the superb and uncomplaining courage, of the mass of sacrifice that redeemed the Nation, is fast dying out. George Washington Custis Lee, also known as Custis Lee, or “Boo” was the eldest son of Robert E. Lee

His grandfather—George Washington Custis—was the step-grandson and adopted son of George Washington.(George and Martha Washington adopted two of their grandchildren -not related by blood)

Birthdate: circa September 16, 1832 Birthplace: Arlington Plant., Alexandria, Fairfax, VA. Death: Died February 18, 1913 in Probably “Ravenworth”, Fairfax, VA Occupation: Major General to aide de camp to Confederate President Jefferson Davis, Civil War Confederate Major General

Lee served in the Virginia state forces for a short time and then became a captain in the Confederate Army, becoming a major general in 1864. Toward the end of the war, he commanded troops in the field, and was captured at Sayler‘s Creek three days before his father surrendered at Appomattox Court House.

In 1865, the Virginia Military Institute hired him as a professor. He left VMI after the death of his father to become the ninth president of Washington and Lee.-Info from WIKI
